Warning
From version 21, no Windows Phone project can be created anymore. Only the projects in Universal Windows 10 App mode are available.
The Windows Phone projects created with version 20 (or earlier) are automatically changed into projects in Universal Windows 10 App mode. See Developing applications in Universal Windows 10 App mode for more details.
Overview
WINDEV Mobile allows you to develop applications for the Windows Phone operating system.
The method for developing applications for Windows Phone with WINDEV Mobile is similar to the method for developing applications for Windows Mobile, except for some differences. You also have the ability to run the test of the applications on the Windows Phone 7 emulator.
Notes:
Creating a project for Windows Phone with WINDEV Mobile
To create a Windows Phone project with WINDEV Mobile:
  1. Select "File .. New" and click "Project".
  2. The wizard for project creation starts. Choose the name and location of your project. You have the ability to enter a short description of the project. Go to the next plane.
  3. Add (if necessary) design documents to the project. Go to the next plane.
  4. In the "Description - Type of project" plane, select "Windows Phone application". Go to the next plane.
  5. Select the supported languages. These languages will be proposed by default as soon as the option of an element (control, window , report, ...) can be translated. Specify (if necessary) the options that must be taken into account for each language (management of numbers, dates, ...).
    • To select the default language displayed in the editor, select the requested language and select "Default language" from the popup menu.
    • To select the default language at run time, select the requested language and select "Default language at run time". This language will be used to view the project at run time.
  6. Go to the next screen.
  7. Validate. The created project becomes the current project.
Notes:
  • A project for Windows Phone cannot be linked to analysis. Windows Phone does not allow you to handle databases. See Specific features of the applications for Windows Phone for more details.
  • In this version, you cannot select a specific skin template: the controls use the system style. You can for example create buttons with a specific interface by using the clickable image controls.
Running the test of a Windows Phone project
Several test modes are available for the Windows Phone applications:
  • The project Go in the WINDEV Mobile simulator.
  • The Go of the project on the Windows Phone emulator: the emulator is supplied with the Windows Phone SDK.
  • The project Go on the device.

Project Go in the simulator directly

This test starts a WINDEV Mobile test window in which the application for Windows Phone is run. This test allows you to use the debugger. However, several differences can be noticed compared to a real execution. Indeed, the simulation is using the PC and not the Windows Phone device.

Go of the project in the Windows Phone emulator

The Windows Phone emulator is supplied with the Windows Phone SDK.
Notes:
  • To run the test of an application on the emulator, this application must be generated. See Generating an application for Windows Phone for more details.
  • The debugger is not attached to the application. The breakpoints are ignored.
  • This type of test does not take the speed of the phone into account. The test takes the speed of the development computer into account.

Project Go on the device directly

To run this test, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
  • the Zune program must be installed and started on the development computer.
  • the device must be connected to the development computer and its screen must be unlocked.
  • the phone must be registered in order to install applications. See Required configuration for more details.
Then, the Windows Phone executable is copied onto the phone connected to the PC and run.
Notes:
  • To run the test of an application on the phone, this application must be generated. See Generating an application for Windows Phone for more details.
  • The debugger is not attached to the application. The breakpoints are ignored.
Deploying a Windows Phone application (without using WINDEV Mobile)
WINDEV Mobile allows you to generate a.xap file (Windows Phone application).
To deploy this xap file, all you have to do is used the "Application Deployment" application of Microsoft available in the Windows Phone SDK.
Once Zune is started and the phone registered, all you have to do is found the generated xap and click "Deploy".
Deploying a Windows Phone application on MarketPlace
A Windows Phone application created with WINDEV Mobile can be deployed on MarketPlace.
The procedure is as follows:
  • Check whether the application complies with the requests of MarketPlace.
  • Submit the application to validation.

Compliance of the application

To be validated and found on MaketPlace, an application for Windows Phone must comply with the following rules:
  • The application must signal in its interface an email address or an URL used to contact the provider of the application. This information can be found in an "About" window displayed from the application.
  • The application must have its version number visible in the application.
  • The application must be visible and readable for each one of the themes available on the Windows Phone phones.
  • The application must use the language specified in its description.
  • If an error occurs, the application must display an error message.
  • The screen shots supplied with the application must correspond to the content of the application. They must not be retouched. No image in transparent PNG format must be used.
  • The icon of the application displayed in MarketPlace must be identical to the icon used by the application.
  • The permissions granted to the application must correspond to the ones required by the application.

Deploying on MarketPlace

Deploying an application requires a developer account. This developer account (payment of a fee) is identical to the one used to register a phone. See Required configuration for more details.
To propose an application for MarketPlace:
  1. Identify yourself in the site of Windows Phone applications (address: http://create.msdn.com/en-US).
  2. In the "Dashboard" menu, select "Windows Phone" and click the "submit an app" button.
  3. The form for submitting the application is displayed. Specify the requested elements and validate.
