Synchronizing the analysis with the external databases
Overview
Synchronizing the analysis with an external database is required if your analysis is using:
  • data files coming from an external database (Oracle, SQL Server, ...).
  • data files whose data was not converted to the HFSQL Classic format.
This synchronization is used to take into account the possible modifications made to the structure of the data files found in the external database.
You can:
  • force the synchronization from the data model editor.
  • program an automatic check for the changes made to the external database when opening the analysis.
Note: From version 19, HFSQL is the new name of HyperFileSQL.
How to proceed?

Forcing the synchronization

To force the synchronization:
  1. Open the analysis containing the external data files in the data model editor.
  2. Select "Structure of files .. Synchronize the analysis with the external databases". The wizard for synchronizing the external databases starts.Select "Structure of files .. Update the analysis from the external databases". The wizard for synchronizing the external databases starts. On "Analysis" pane, in the "Analysis" group, expand "Synchronization" and select "Update the analysis from the external databases". The wizard for synchronizing the external databases starts.
  3. Select the databases used in the analysis to check.
  4. Specify the type of check and validate. You have the ability to check:
    • the data files (tables) common to the external database and to the analysis.
    • all the data files (tables) found in the external database.
  5. The list of data files that are not consistent with the current analysis is displayed. The current analysis can be updated. Choose the modifications to apply.
  6. Program (if necessary) a regular check of the structure of the external databases. This check will be automatically performed when the analysis is opened. Specify (if necessary) the frequency of this check.
  7. Validate.

Programming a regular synchronization (when the analysis is opened)

  1. Open the analysis containing the external files in the data model editor.
  2. Select "Analysis .. Analysis description".Display the description window of the analysis:
    • display the popup menu of the analysis graph (right mouse click).
    • select "Analysis description".
  3. In the "Options" tab, select the frequency for the synchronization:
  4. Validate.
