Operations performed on an activity diagram
How to proceed?

Creating an activity diagram

To create an activity diagram:
  1. Select "File .. New .. Architecture .. UML". The wizard for creating a UML model starts.Click among the quick access buttons.
    • In the wheel that is displayed, hover "Architecture" and click "UML". The window for creating a new element is displayed: click "Architecture" then "UML".
    • The wizard for creating a UML model starts.
  2. Select "Activity diagram".
  3. Specify the UML model into which the diagram will be inserted.
  4. Choose to edit the diagram directly.
  5. Validate the creation of the activity diagram. The created model becomes the current model.

Creating an activity

To create an activity:
  1. Select "Insert .. Activity". A new activity appears in the UML model.On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Activity". A new activity appears in the UML model.
  2. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of the new activity. The window for specifying the activity is displayed.
  3. Specify:
    • the type of the activity.
    • the name of the activity. This name is displayed in the UML editor.
  4. Select "Insert .. Synchronization bar". A new synchronization bar appears in the UML model.On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Synchronization bar". A new synchronization bar appears in the UML model.
  5. The popup menu (right mouse click) of the synchronization bar is used to:
    • change the orientation of the bar.
    • change the color of the bar.

Creating an object

To create an object:
  1. Select "Insert .. Object". A new object appears in the UML model.On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Object". A new object appears in the UML model.
  2. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of the new object. The window for specifying the object is displayed.
  3. Specify:
    • the type of the object.
    • the name of the object. This name is displayed in the UML editor.
    • the class of the object.
    • the stereotype of the object.
  4. Validate the description of the object.

Creating a signal emission

To create a signal emission:
  1. Select "Insert .. Send a signal". A new signal emission appears in the UML model.1. On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Emit a signal". A new signal emission appears in the UML model.
  2. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of the new signal emission. The window for specifying the new signal emission is displayed.
  3. Specify:
    • the type of emission.
    • the name of the emission. This name is displayed in the UML editor.
  4. Validate the description of the signal emission.

Creating a signal wait

To create a signal wait:
  1. Select "Insert .. Wait for signal". A new signal wait appears in the UML model.On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Wait for signal". A new signal wait appears in the UML model.
  2. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of the new signal wait. The window for specifying the new signal wait is displayed.
  3. Specify:
    • the type of emission.
    • the name of the emission. This name is displayed in the UML editor.
  4. Validate the description of the signal wait.

Creating a transition

To create a transition:
  1. Select "Insert .. Transition".On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Transition".
  2. Select the different elements to link.
  3. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of new transition. The window for specifying the transition is displayed.
  4. Specify:
    • the type of the transition.
    • the name of the transition. This name is displayed in the UML editor.
  5. Validate the description of the transition.

Creating a package

To create a package:
  1. Select "Insert .. Package" or click . A new package appears in the UML model.On the "Activity diagram" pane, in the "Creation" group, click "Package". A new package appears in the UML model.
  2. Select "Description" from the popup menu (right mouse click) of the new package. The window for specifying the package is displayed.
  3. Specify:
    • the name of the package. This name is displayed in the package in the UML editor.
    • the caption of the package describing the purpose of the package.
    • the relations of the package.
  4. Validate the description of the package.
