5. Comparison between HFSQL and CEDB
Previous pageTable of contentsNext page
To display information coming from a database in a window, the controls in the window must be bound to the different items of the database.
The method for displaying and retrieving information depends on the database used (HFSQL or CEDB).
Data binding between a window and an HFSQL database
The binding between a control and an item can be defined in the window editor, in the control description ("Binding" tab). This binding allows you to specify the file item that will be used by ScreenToFile and FileToScreen.
Data binding between a window and a Pocket PC database (CEDB)
This binding must be defined by programming (cdbXXX functions).
Other differences
Using HFSQL databases (Classic or Client/Server) gives you the following advantages (non-exhaustive list):
  • Speed of the HFSQL database.
  • Queries on HFSQL databases (created with the query editor included in the product).
  • Fast application development via Full Application RAD.
  • HFSQL-specific features (encryption, etc.)
