Character string: How do I extract, delete or replace words?
This page presents the main operations that can be performed on a character string.
NoAccent (Function)
Converts accented characters in a string to non-accented characters.
PositionToLine (Function)
Returns the number of the line that contains a character identified by its position in a block of text.
StringToJSON (Function)
Converts a JSON string into a JSON variable.
TextToXML (Function)
Converts an ANSI string to an XML string.
StringDelete (Function)
Deletes:
  • all the occurrences of a substring within a string.
  • part of a string within another string. The part of the string to remove is identified by its position and length.
iPrintWord (Function)
Sends the character string passed in parameter to the print buffer.
XMLToText (Function)
Converts a character string in XML format into a standard character string.
MatchRegularExpression (Function)
Checks whether a character string matches a specific format and retrieves the different substrings that match the format.
Encode (Function)
Encodes a character string or a buffer. To decode the result, simply use Decode.
fFind (Function)
Finds a character string or a buffer in a file opened by fOpen.
Length (Function)
Returns:
  • the length of a string, i.e., the number of characters in the string (including spaces and binary zeros).
  • the size of a buffer, i.e., the number of bytes in the buffer.
Position (Function)
Finds the position of a specified string within another string.
Translating programming messages

Reverses the characters of a string.
<Table>.ToText (Function)
Creates a character string from the data found in a Table or TreeView Table control.

Decodes a character string that was encoded by Encode.

Finds a character string or a buffer in a file opened by fOpen.
NoCharacter (Function)
Returns a string after removing the specified leading and trailing characters.

Encodes a character string according to the UUEncode algorithm.

Checks whether a character string ends with:
  • with a specific character string.
  • with one of the character strings in an array.
NoRightCharacter (Function)
Returns a string after removing the specified characters from the right side of the initial string.

ASCIIZ string of (Variable type)
The ASCIIZ string of type is used to manipulate strings with a null character at the end, denoted by a zero (as in the C programming language).
StringIncrement (Function)
Increments a number at the beginning or at the end of a string.
LineToPosition (Function)
Returns the position of the first character of a line in a block of text.
<ANSI string>.RegexMatch (Function)
Checks whether a string matches the format defined by a regular expression.
fInsertTextAtBeginning (Function)
Inserts text at the beginning of a file without overwriting the existing text.
ExtractStringAfter (Function)
Extracts a substring from a given delimiter to the end of the string.

Removes duplicates among substrings of a string, based on one or more separators.
fAddText (Function)
Adds the content of a character string at the end of a file.
ExtractStringBefore (Function)
Extracts a substring from the beginning of the string to a given delimiter.
